Many tooth colored fillingstimes you won’t experience symptoms with a cavity, which is why it’s so important to come in every six months for routine checkups. However, now that one has been detected, we can get to treating it!

Cavity Treatment

Here are the steps involved in treating a cavity,

  1. We will numb the area with a local anesthetic so that you don’t feel anything during your procedure.
  2. We will drill away the decayed areas of the tooth.
  3. We will restore the tooth with a dental filling.

Getting a dental filling is crucial if you want to restore a tooth after a cavity and return it to strength. Of course, we don’t want anyone to notice which tooth has a dental filling, right? This means that we will need to use a special material called composite resin, which will blend right in with natural tooth enamel.

Now, you might be thinking to yourself, “Aren't everyone’s teeth a little different when it comes to the color? How can you possibly get a dental filling to match?” Luckily, composite resin comes in many different shades, allowing us to choose the one that most closely resembles your tooth before applying it. You won’t even notice the filling once it’s placed!

In order to place the filling, we will choose the appropriate material and then apply a thin layer over the tooth. Composite resin is putty-like, which makes it easy to mold and shape so that it goes with the natural grooves and contours of the tooth. Once the layer is shaped, we will harden it with a special light. After this layer is hardened, we will apply another layer of resin and repeat the process until the tooth is fully restored.
